Retired Chief of Detectives, Chicago Police
Gene is a product of Chicago's South Side. As a child, he came to know many Chicago Police Officers from walking past the Old Burnside Station at 91st & Cottage while coming home from school.
Those positive encounters led him to pursue a career as a Chicago Police Office himself, and he served the CPD and the people of Chicago for over 30 years. He served as a Patrolman, a Homicide Detective, a Sergeant in Patrol, Detectives and Administration, before being promotions to Lieutenant, Captain, and the District Commander of the 9th District in Bridgeport, where he led police operations during the historic 2005 White Sox World Series run. He returned to the Detective Division, where he served as Deputy Chief and the Chief of Detectives until his retirement.
Gene works as a Consultant on Law Enforcement, Investigations, and Public Safety.
In his spare time, he works with Kammie Juzwin of the Haymarket Center, educating Police, Fire and other First Responders about the emotional toll those careers take on them and their families, and steps they can take to remain resilient and healthy.
He also volunteers with the Northern Illinois Critical Incident Stress Management Team, which provides support to First Responders after critical incidents they face during their time on the street. It’s his way of looking out for the people he had the honor of leading during his career.
